[Dragaera] Dzur reactions (SPOILERS, dammit)

I guess someone has to go first. It pains me to say this, but I'm a
fan, not a family member. I'd rather be honest than fawning, not that
that will do me any favors, and there is no one who I respect who has
been kinder to me, to the fans, than Steve.
I was disappointed. After tearing through Dzur in 24 hours, I was
hoping we were gearing up for something really stunning. Instead, it
read like a reunion followed by a clever Mexican stand-off where
nothing of genuine important was resolved. It felt like the smartest
deferral in literary history. Perhaps I will feel differently after a
more measured reading.
I have been around since Jarhead and am my own bit of rabid, but try
this for yourself and see if it has the sort of punch that you expect:
"In which Vlad buys some people some time."
I'm probably missing something.
Bloodless climaxes may be all the rage in diplomacy, but I was sort of
yearning for something... else. Put it this way - when Mal Reynolds
says "I aim to misbehave," he really does, and maybe that's coloring
my impression.
I will say that I have never wanted to visit any one place as much as
I want to visit Valabar's. Take /that/, Calahan's! So that's
something, anyway.
Anyway, no offense, mea culpa, imho, ymmv.
