I admit to having felt frustrated at the moment of reading (or of
seeing where the epilogue was going, and seeing how many pages were
left), but the majority of that was general impatience and wanting
what-happens-next.
In terms of the story--both this book and the series--I don't see it
as a problem. The epilogue had to be there, so that the question of
whether Cawti would hold to her part of the agreement would be
resolved. Tying up loose ends in *this* book.
As for the fact that we don't get to see Vlad meet VN, well, isn't the
focus of this book exploring the nature of Dzur, and those qualities
as they may or may not be present in Vlad? Is fatherhood something
Vlad could have prepared for, or is it something that he could leap
into with little thought in the moment? I hope not, so it doesn't
really belong in this book.
All of that is after having only read it once, however, so my take on
it may be faulty. I went through it rather quickly, and it is
still...digesting.
