In my line of work (supporting graphic-design software with a 
sophisticated type-engine that you may have heard of) I have to know 
little bits of trivia like where the ampersand character came from. I 
don't expect it do be general knowledge. (*I* certainly didn't know this 
until I took my current job.)

I'll admit I was a bit surprised to see it used in this way in the text, 
since this is *not* a common ligature (or "glyph") to use in this 
situation (at least, not anymore). So even though I knew what it meant, 
it *did* strike me as odd. As I pointed out a bit earlier, this section 
is *not* printed this way in the "Klava with Honey" chapbook excerpt.

This makes me wonder if this was really a decision of the author, or 
perhaps one of the printer/typesetter/publisher?
