Oh, yeah -- that (well, the only, so far) Susannah Clarke work
definately fits in (and has helped popularize) the subgenre.  Also
relevant and popular are Pratchett's works including fairies.

Possibly.  Doesn't bother me.

This is a worse choice of words -- "sharing animal characteristics"
would be better, since the Dragaerans are far from what I'd think of
as animal-like.  Hell, the best of the furry comics aren't
necessarily animal-like; certainly I wouldn't descirbe Usagi Yojimbo's
characters that way.
