[Dragaera] Dragaera Digest, Vol 6, Issue 9

I've gotta ask how "Droppa MaPantz" counts as subtle, too. It's
appropriate, but hardly subtle.

As joke names go, it's on the "not subtle" end of things. Want subtle joke
names? Read Trevanian, you'll never know what hit you till you read the
book a second time. Sometimes he takes care not to let you see the whole
name printed out at once, so you have to put it together yourself. He has
one-night-stand women named Anna Bidet, Randy Nickers, and Cherry Pitt.
Intelligence boss is named Yurasis Dragon. Lackey named Clement Pope. This
guy has fun with names, in a story not really intended to be funny.

Just my not-so-subtle thoughts.

By the way, I'm re-reading the Amber series now too, and seeing more and
more of Zelazny's influence on Brust. Anyone ever notice how many Dragaera
devices are really similar to Amber devices? From Amber princes who tend to
live a long time and be stronger/tougher than Shadow humans, to magic
fuelled by Amorphia/Primal Chaos, (which can also be manipulated directly if
you're into weapons of mass destruction), to pieces of jewelry that are
semi-sentient and can be psychically entered/traversed to attain a higher
mental state. Hmmm....
