While some of our holidays do go across cultures, our cultures also have a lot more contact with one another than the Easterners appear to have with the Dragaeran Empire. 

I'm not sure an Ascension Day holiday could really have migrated in either direction given the limited amount of contact the two peoples have. 

I suppose it's possible that Ascension Day in the Empire is only celebrated by expatriated Easterners, however. 

But can the Easterners afford the fireworks that "light up the sky" as described by Vlad?
