Maybe M told Vlad that his hero T did x, using some court-style
Dragaeran with complex reference, and Vlad got confused.  (E.g.,
imagine a mode of speech where one presents the viewpoint of
someone else as a way of honoring that person.)

Maybe V would have interpreted/remembered correctly but his memory of
Path-related activities was generally munged in Verra's intervention.
