Hmmm. It seems to me difficult to evaluate whether Vlad was responding
"like a man" without witnessing the story from the perspective of,
say, Aliera, Kragar, or even Cawti. Talking about pain to your journal
or to a little black box is different from letting actual _people_ in
on your private business.
