Not sure if this is entirely list-appropriate, but thought there might 
be folks here who read and enjoyed David Eddings (author who wrote "The 
Belgariad" and "The Mallorean" series) who would want to know he has 
just passed away after having had a stroke earlier this year.

I read his earlier works in High School and enjoyed them at the time, 
though his later efforts didn't really live up to his reputation, in my 
opinion.
