I think Sethra's speech in Issola implies they're (and maybe Morganti in
general) ES made manifest, and almost certainly made by it (and maybe
other abilities.) That may or may not be the same as "powered by".

'Vague' is a matter of what you're used to. 'Hawk' is vague; there's no
one species of hawk, but lots of species, and the differences between
hawks, eagles, and falcons would be lost on most people. (Owls as
round-faced and nocturnal stand out more, at least to us... of course,
Dragaerans have athyra.) 'raptor' doesn't seem unusable to me.
And these are a people who supposedly don't distinguish between wine and
brandy.

Only if the users of the common tongue commonly give a damn about the
distinctions. Lots of fields have distinction-driven jargon that aren't
part of common language (or go horribly awry if they do.)
