This method does work. If you buy a book from a different mobipocket 
vendor, e.g. http://fictionwise.com, you can use the method on this page 
to transfer the book to your Kindle. Many other mobipocket vendors don't 
care where in the world you are located. Currently Iorich is available 
in ebook version from Amazon, the Sony store http://ebookstore.sony.com, 
and Diesel eBooks http://www.diesel-ebooks.com (Hey, the Sony store also 
has To Reign in Hell! And Barnes & Noble has Cowboy Feng's!)

The other procedure I posted about, to buy a book from Amazon from 
outside the US, might not work for everyone. I haven't tried that one 
myself.

Have you tried registering a PC version of the Kindle reader against a 
US address?
