The book ends at chapter 10 with Vlad stabbed through the heart with a morganti knife and his soul destroyed for good...

Vlad goes on an epic quest that results in the destruction of most of the Lords of Judgement. He and Loiosh are the only survivors as the entire world dissolves into amorphia. To restore balance and lock out the Jenoine for good, Loiosh offers up his soul to Godslayer to give Vlad the strength to manually turn the Cycle. Vlad then gives a sorrowful soliloquy and Godslayer takes his soul for good measure before changing into a new Taltos to harry and keep the remaining Gods in check.
