All  pre-orders when purchased count as first week sales.  Getting on the 
NY  Times and other book best seller lists for first week and/or other weeks 
gets  more books sold because there are people who see them on the lists and 
 therefore buy them.
 
Pre-ordering may also help book sellers order more books.  Like look  a 
customer pre-ordered this book...lets order 10.   I like to  pre-order at the 
brick and mortar stores too.  People also buy books  because they see them on 
a book store shelf.


Pre-orders move a book up in the Bestsellers Rank if the vendor has  one

Remember your local libraries love donations of books and they may even  
have purchase request forms you can fill out.  They are more likely to  get 
the new book if they already have some Brust books.
