I know that SKZB is a fan of Dorothy Sayers. I was thinking of her as he changed "auctorial voice" not just once or twice, but FOUR times in this novel.

It brought me to the line in Gaudy Night where Peter has written the close to Harriet's sonnet and she thinks, " how dared he pick up on her word "sleep" and use it four times in as many lines, and each time with a different foot, as though juggling with the accent-shift were child's play?"

But perhaps I am overthinking. Or am I?
