  There are variations in description throughout the books, many in
_Tiassa_ (some of which might
 just be to show how different people
perceive the same things, but others perhaps to explain things previously
perceived as inconsistancies).  For example, on page 41, Vlad said Piro
was a bit younger than 1,000, but he's much younger than that (one of
the youngest adults Vlad meets within the stories).  He previously called
Khaavren old, who is approximately 1,000 himself.  Vlad has said he's not
the best at determining Dragaerans' ages, but this is a bit much.  Perhaps
it's not only to account for Khaavren's appearance, but Mario's (he might
not need time travel, etc., as as explanation for looking old to Vlad).  We
know Dragaerans typically use magic to appear young (keep from going
bald, growing fat, perhaps change color of hair from grey, etc.), so it's
difficult to know exactly what features Vlad checks when he makes a
judgement about
 age, or whether those who don't use these magic spells
always look older.
