We don't have many data points on this. But we *do* see many instances of
political maneuvering about replacing the Dragon Heir, during a period
when they are expected to take the throne 'soon'. It is at least possible
that one of the qualities that a House uses to select an heir is "not so
old that they are unlikely to live through a reign" Looking at American
Presidential politics, we observe something similar; there are exceptions,
but such advanced age is always discussed as a negative point during
campaigns (including primaries).
