If we trust Paarfi, who may or may not be a dubious personage to place trust
in, the sudden advances in sorcery were a result of the Lords of Judgement
"fine tuning" or enhancing the Orb while it resided in the Halls of
Judgement during the Interregnum.

There are no connections directly drawn to the Lesser Sea of Chaos.
