Compare:

Starman Jones, Chapter 12:

"He thought for a moment that he could have kissed her, right then, if he had played his cards right. But the moment passed and they went inside."

Yendi, Chapter 13:

"If I had thrown my stones right, I could have kissed her then. So I did."

It seems reasonable to me to conclude the similarity in phrasing here is more than just coincidental.
