[Dragaera] So, what did really happen at the end of Chapter 15 of Hawk?

As I wanted to read Lyorn in chronological order, I just re-read Hawk. I remember being confused about this the last time I read it as well, but then I quickly became preoccupied by the resolution to the big caper. Now, it stuck with me.

So, Vlad is sitting in that room with the Council members and their sorcerers, and the suddenly the door is burst open.

But, then what happens? Nobody charge in through the door, and instead they cast a sleep spell and put chains on Vlad and so on.

Did I miss something there? What was it that blew open the door?
