I guess I will never understand Dragaeran nobility.  In European 
tradition, a marquis/margrave/marquess was an important lord, his 
holding being on a border which needed defending (Pepperfield would 
seem to qualify.)  Changing it to a barony reduced its importance and 
rank greatly.
