Since at least one of Vlad's causes is to not get his ass killed, I
think he would disagree with you on that point.

And yet, I think he managed to work things out anyway; Crithnak's
death served as an emphasis that Vlad was not without deadly
resources, a vital point during Jhereg negotiation.

You do have a point, there.

The only thing I can think of is that perhaps Triesco did in fact have
a closer relationship to Crithnak and her sister than Vlad realized
(perhaps she was another sister, or a cousin)?
