Also - that is a traditional "sorcerer's apprentice" fictional theme.

Kind of like the lifespan of an elf characteristic, that really doesn't 
make sense when we try to make Dragaera to be realistic.   It's a 
literary convention which Steven is having fun with - and which readers 
such as myself are enjoying as well.

Except Sethra's apprentices create some neat plot elements as well.
