The great Sea predates the orb and trellanstone doesn't seem to
stabilize things all by itself (discussion in Issola). Something or
someone is preventing two seas of Chaos from wiping out the world.
Removing one of the likely candidates is worth a thought or two at
least.

------------------------------
Well, we know that the GSoC came about when Verra ousted the Gods.
Whether it was 1) a tool/weapon by which the rebellion was
accomplished, or 2) a side-effect of the rebellion or 3) both at the
same time, remains to be determined.
It might very much be like what occurred in _TRiH_ where a hole was
punched through the fabric of reality letting the flux in, and the
subsequent massive spike in the potency of magic allowed Jehovah to
accomplish his Great Plan. So that's an example of 3) where a
quick-thinking agency took advantage of the situation and used it to
his own ends.
But that makes me wonder about _Issola_. The Jenoine's point of
attack was the LSoC. Now, that was apparently because of the
circumstances (ie, their siphon point that got shut off was there, so
of course you send "technicians" to investigate/repair at the site of
the problem). But they didn't seem to care too much about the Chaos
itself; perhaps they have the Chaos equivalent of a Nuclear Hazard
Suit, and were wearing it when they showed up--or perhaps they didn't
care simply because it happened NEAR the LSoC and not ON it. Maybe
taking even a Jenoine taking a swim in a sea of Chaos would find
himself in a spot of trouble.
But at the same time, we know that you CAN become immersed in one way
or another without dissolving. If nothing else, Adron's consciousness
it out there somewhere. And I think some Athyra or other sorcerous
types are mentioned by Aliera to Vlad as "communing with the Sea" for
prolonged periods of time.
So my question is, if the GSoC was a 3) type situation, which side
took advantage of it, and how? and why did the other side not do the
same, or counter it? Both sides are presumably quite capable with
Chaos. Especially if my "Chaos-assisted genetic manipulation
experiments" theory is correct.
