I was just thinking that perhaps Vlad's claim that reigns last between 
17**2 qnd 17**3 years might actually apply to the age of the emperor. 
If so, perhaps Zerika was the Cycle emperor at the time of the Disaster, 
but the Orb doesn't think so because she's too young.  However, assuming 
Paarfi is correct that Zerika is soon to be born during _FHYA_, the 
Interregnum ends too soon - 250 years or so - for her to be 289 or over.

Of course one can rescue at least the idea that Zerika was the Cycle 
emperor after Tortaalik died but the Orb throws an exception when it 
finds that out, as she doesn't for example have a conventional age.
