I am dubious.

Googling for "Salt from my attic" produces *only* references to this
quote, no other mention of the existence of such a book.  BookFinder.com
has never heard of it.  A search for John Shedd on BookFinder.com yields
no results, and the (few) John Shedd's listed don't seem likely to be the
source of this quote.  Googling "John A. Shedd", again, finds only
references to quotes, no specific references to a person.  This is not
conclusive, but it is highly suggestive.

Attribution of quotes on the internet is flaky at best, and most often
resembles the results of a game of Telephone...
