Incidentally, the idea of a contact that nobody can find amuses me.
Maybe it's a way of screening potential customers to see how
interested they really are. ;)

Could be, although it's probably more complicated in practice. You
could have some surveillance on her at the other end to know exactly
when she's about to make the teleport; just so you don't go stabbing
random people when you see the pre-teleport shimmers. Also, Vlad asked
what the "official story" is going to be and Mario gave it to him;
there's no guarantee that that's what actually happened to her, only
that it will look that way to investigators.

I don't think there's any indication that Vlad couldn't work out how
to do the same thing if he thought about it. It does appear to be
difficult enough that he never even considered the possibility; but
then, Vlad isn't a very good sorcerer by all accounts...
