I agree there's good reason to think she had had a large income, but
I don't see how her being independently wealthy is consistent with
_Jhereg_ (if you're talking on the Mellar pay scale) - if she can
buy a castle, the ending doesn't quite make as much sense and Vlad's
motivation doesn't either.  Ok, _J_ isn't 100% canonical at this point.

I don't see how her having even significant funds is consistent with
_Teckla_, though, since Vlad could surely have used a loan.  Surely
would have asked for one.

Where the money went?  Maybe she had had to buy herself into the business
and paid off the loan?  She had been in deep debt before and got into
work because of that?  She sent a bunch back East?
