It's entirely plausible if that's what the gods wanted.  Maybe Verra 
wasn't in on that decision.  She certainly appears to like Teldra and
dislike GS.  Well, ok, is Verra happy that Vlad has GS?  Was his having
a generic GW part of Her plan for him?  She certainly hasn't treated
him in a way likely to lead to warm fuzzies, which is a bit hard to
understand if a certain legend is well informed.

Or maybe this is a Cycle-level coincidence.
