...And in Issola she seems to imply that she was dead and chatted with the
Lords of Judgement, who offered her godhood, and since she refused and her
work was not yet done, allowed her to return as an undead.

She also implies that her case is unusual but not necessarily unique.

This is all from about chapter 2 when she explains the Jenoine and the Gods
to Vlad.
